The story behind the song – Pieces

Pieces was written during the second Skyend sessions at the end of the fall 2015. There’s a very basic chord progression all the way through so the key word behind the song is definitely simplicity. Universal things, the wideness of musical expression and kind of cosmic and misty shades were in the spotlight behind the sound of whole Skyend release. Pieces provides definitely these elements while the band and the orchestra paints with such a big brush. In vocal sessions we focused on finding some serious pop elements, different worlds of harmony and various choir arrangements that came some sort of red line with every Skyend songs.

Feeling of leaving, separation anxiety and some sort of melancholic romanticism are the main themes of Pieces that dives into that bluish world unknown with its lyrics. This song might thinly embrace the world but at the same time it asks you to stand up and fight for better tomorrow – with the power of memories if nothing else.

Tarina laulun takaa – Pieces

Toisissa Skyend-sessioissa loppusyksyllä 2015 syntynyt Pieces luottaa yksinkertaisuuden voimaan ja nojaa samaan sointukiertoon koko kestonsa ajan. Universaalius, ilmaisun leveys ja osittain avaruudelliset sekä hieman utuiset tulokulmat olivat keskiössä koko Skyend-EP:n sävymaailmaa pohdittaessa. Pieces tarjoaakin näitä elementtejä eritoten maalaillen äänimaisemia varsin isolla pensselillä, bändisoitannan sekä orkestroinnin vahvistaessa verraten leveitä linjoja. Laulusessioissa keskiössä olivat tulkinnan popahtavuus, laajat stemmailut ja kuorosovitukset, jotka määrittelivätkin osaltaan hyvin vahvasti koko Skyend-julkaisun soundia ja tunnelmaa.

Lähdön tuntua, eroahdistusta ja kaihoromantiikkaa viestivä Pieces sukeltaa sanoissaan tuntemattomaan aloittaen löyhän teemaseikkailun kansikuvan rantakiville – tuntemiemme maailmojen laidalle, syvyyksiin tai korkeuksiin. Maailmaa syleilevällä otteella Pieces kehottaa nousemaan ylös ja taistelemaan paremman huomisen puolesta – muistojen voimalla, jos ei muuten.
