The story behind the song – Skyend

The story behind the song – Skyend

Skyend was the very first song we wrote for the new EP during that one weekend in last October. The end was definitely beginning in this case because the song Skyend started the whole thinking process concerning the themes and shades of whole release. A drum fill as a song starter, folkish intro melody, harmony guitar riffing of the verse parts, choir arrangements and multi-layered vocals were those crucial things since day one. Elisa Järvelä’s amazing work with her ancient violin was that one great idea during the post-production. Even though there’re these soft and playful feelings already in the demo version of the song that longing and melancholic side of the Skyend was somehow the red line for everything. The phrase “Where is the Skyend?” brought up the idea of that abstract adventure through the deep unknown. This specific song collects the main idea and themes of whole EP; human mind in the front challenges of future world and keeping the faith during the days of grey as well. On the other hand, music of Skyend just interprets that inspiring Antti Palkén’s photography what was the starting point for second chapter of EGiM’s story. Read more

This song was written during the first weekend of December after that one intensive writing session. Radio Silence was the last one made for Skyend. We wanted to capture some more a raw kind of sound after two or three softer songs already done. There were some massive orchestral things, choir strikes and for example hypnotic double bass drumming already in the demo version of the song but Radio Silence was definitely the song that transformed the most during the final recordings to be honest. Aggressive brass arrangements, fast string patterns, authentic violin sound, electro stuff, furious band expression with polyphonic and misty vocals created the identity for this wild song. The story behind the song – Pieces

The story behind the song – Pieces

Pieces was written during the second Skyend sessions at the end of the fall 2015. There’s a very basic chord progression all the way through so the key word behind the song is definitely simplicity. Universal things, the wideness of musical expression and kind of cosmic and misty shades were in the spotlight behind the sound of whole Skyend release. Pieces provides definitely these elements while the band and the orchestra paints with such a big brush. In vocal sessions we focused on finding some serious pop elements, different worlds of harmony and various choir arrangements that came some sort of red line with every Skyend songs. Read more

The story behind the song – City Ghost’s Club

The story behind the song – City Ghost’s Club

The very first checkpoint of EGiM’s journey is good old City Ghost’s Club. This 4-minute song with some playful and twisted vibes was written in the city of Rovaniemi, September 2012. Since then this piece of music followed us one way or another and finally it ended up being our first single. The verses with theatrical and storytelling styles, choruses with some etheric soaring, harmonic rock band expression and the cinematic side of the song just didn’t leave us alone. Read more
